Publishing this on my 22nd birthday... How the hell am I 22 years old today? Well joyeux anniversaire to me I guess! Last year I was celebrating my birthday in London, this year I'm spending it at home in Southern France. Not only the place has changed, but the person too. The Flora I was a year ago is so different from the one today. It's crazy how much things change, evolve, and how many lessons you learn in a short period a time.

I'm still going to change, evolve, grow, and I'm still going to make mistakes and learn lessons; but here are the 22 lessons I've learned so far in life and hopefully some of them will resonate with you:

#1 If you have the opportunity to do something that scares you, do it

Like moving abroad, changing jobs... It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.

#2 The only time you are growing is when you're uncomfortable

Very similar to #1 above. "Growth can be uncomfortable but there’s nothing more uncomfortable than being stuck." Take chances.

#3 I'm an introvert and that's okay

There's a negative stereotype around introverts and people usualy think we are too quiet or can't/don't want to be social - when actually it just means that being around other people drains our energy and we need alone time to recharge. I used to think something was wrong with me, but I now see being an introvert as a strength!

#4 You always have a choice

No matter how stuck you feel... you aren't. Don't stay in a situation where you are unhappy. There's always a choice. It all begins with your thoughts - your mind believes what you tell it; fear is a choice. There's always a second, third, fourth, fifth(...) option.

#5 You are exactly where you are meant to be

Comparing yourself to other people is useless, go at your own pace - you have time, there's no need to rush.

#6 Going through the motions gets you nowhere

High school doesn't prepare you for university, university doesn't prepare you for the real world, and so on - unless YOU make it. Put yourself out there, be curious and motivated, gain experience and keep learning even after finishing your education.

#7 Not everything will go as planned

Even though I'm the most organised person I know, sometimes (most of the time) things don't go aas planned and that's okay. Everything will work out and make sense in the end.

#8 You can't control the world but you can control how you react to it

I love this quote by Rochelle Fox from Mindspo and I resonate with it so so much. You can't control other people, what they do and say, what they think of you - but you can choose how it affects you and what you do about it. You control your happiness. You create your own reality. Let that sink in.

#9 It's okay to walk away from a friendship

A few years ago, I chose to end a 10+ year long toxic friendship and it was hands down the best decision I've ever made. I've felt so free and truly like myself since then. Choose to be surrounded by people that lift you up and truly support you; there's no time for judgmental, jealous, unappreciative and disrespectful people in your life.

#10 No one has their life completely figured out

We change daily, we are a journey - it's okay to have bad days just keep living and keep trying.

#11 Save money, but don't forget to live life too

Save save save. I'm a big saver, I actually save more money than I spend. But if there's one thing I don't hesistate spending my money on is experiences: it's important to put some money aside but also make unforgettable memories and be a little sponteneous and crazy sometimes.

#12 Time heals everything

When I feel extremely sad, stuck or heartbroken, there's one thing that comforts me: knowing that with time I will be ok. And I just need to wait. It might feel like the end of the world and that the pain will never go away, but with time everything will be fine.

#13 Driving isn't so bad

I used to hate driving... until I moved to England and didn't drive for a year, mainly because I was too scared of driving on the other side of the road. Then I moved back to France and suddenly I realised how much I missed it. There's just something about driving with my windows down and a good playlist that makes me so content with life.

#14 It's okay to say no sometimes

There's nothing wrong with prioritising yourself.

#15 Books are everything

Buy me books and you'll win over my heart.

#16 France is actually pretty great

I grew up desperately wanting to move abroad and leave France for good. And that might still happen, who knows, I'm only 22 and I don't know what the future holds. But the more I travel, the more I realise that France is actually not that bad... and I wouldn't mind living here for the rest of my life.

#17 When in doubt, wear black

Simple but super chic every time.

#18 Choose kindness

Not everyone is going to be nice. Not everyone has the same heart as you do. It's easy to snap in a stressful situation, but try to be the kind one always. Even if the person in front of you is not really nice to you. Kindness always wins and karma always comes back around.

#19 Dogs make life so much better

Need I say more?

#20 Don't be afraid to do things on your own

Don't miss out on something waiting for others to come with you. Whether it's going to the cinema, to a concert, or going on a trip... They'll be the ones missing out!

#21 Mental health is just as important as physical health

What's a healthy body without a healthy mind? Take care of both. Workout. Meditate. Find your balance.

#22 Netflix > going out

And Gossip Girl will always be the best TV show ever.

It was actually hard to come up with 22 things! I easily came up with around 15 and really struggled to find the last few ones haha. I'd love to discuss any of these with you and please share what you've learned so far too so we can all learn from each other!

What is the biggest lesson you've learned?
