Where is home? What do you define home? What does the word home mean to you?

"She was like the wind. Almost belonging everywhere; yet never quite belonging anywhere."

If you're a traveller or have moved a few times in your life, chances are you struggle to only call one place home.

I get you.

There comes a time when it feels like home is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. There are these places that you absolutely love and know inside out - but your heart never feels completely full. It's like you left behind a piece of your heart in different places around the world. And you will never feel completely at home again.

After reading this blog post written by Victoria from In The Frow, where she shares the different places she calls home in this world, I felt inspired to share mine too. So here are the 4 places I am proud to call home today:

Toulon, France

The first words that come to my mind when someone says home is: the sea. the sun. palm trees. I grew up in a small town on the French Riviera, where the sun shines 300 days a year, where summer nights at the beach with your friends are a common thing, where sitting at a terrace of a cafĂ© with your sunglasses on and eating ice cream all afternoon is your favourite activity. I didn't realise how lucky I was to call this place home and how much I missed it until I started travelling. Living 10 minutes away from the sea & the beach is truly a blessing. There are sooo many gorgeous places on the French Riviera to discover, and even if I have been to a place 45 times it will still amaze me the 46th time. That's how beautiful it is here.

Bordeaux, France

Both of my parents grew up there, then just before they had me they moved to Southern France - so I have never actually lived there (yet!) However my whole family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc) still live there. When I was younger, my parents used to take my brother and I to Bordeaux at least twice every year to visit. Now that I'm older, I still try to go once a year, usually at Christmas to spend the festive season with everyone.

I have always felt at home in Bordeaux. Maybe because it's home to my parents and they unconsciously passed on this "it's home here" feeling to me - but I have always loved the city, its people, its culture, its architecture. It's hands down my favourite city in France... If you have been following me for a while you would know that one of my goals is to live in Bordeaux for at least a year to truly experience what it feels like to be living in this beautiful city, so hopefully I will be able to call this my proper home soon!

Valencia, Spain

The first place I ever lived abroad. In my second year at university, we had to go to another country for a month to discover the local culture and improve our language skills. I chose Valencia - it was a bit of a last minute decision so at the time I didn't know much about the city and to be honest, I wasn't that crazy about Spain. But this month changed everything! I have honestly never had so much fun in my life - two of my bestest friends were in Valencia too so we were always meeting up for fun activities, I explored every corner of the city until I knew it inside and out, I experienced the Spanish culture (which I fell in love with). Since then I have been obsessed with Spain, I am dying to go back and would love to visit other cities! It was the best month of my life and Valencia truly feels like home to me.

Birmingham, England

The second place I lived abroad! I moved to Birmingham in April 2017 right after getting my Bachelor's degree, and worked there for almost year. I'm going to be honest it wasn't love at first sight with Birmingham, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. Though in a year I started feeling really comfortable in this city, I started appreciating the little details and noticing what makes this place different. It started to feel like home. The people I have met there made this year even more magical and so worth it. These people are like family to me now - so of course I had to add Birmingham to the list, it's home now.

Which places hold a special place in your heart? Where do you call home? Tell me in the comments below, I'd love to know!
